SSL certificate checker
See whether browsers trust a website's certificate, when it runs out and whether it renews itself.
If your certificate is about to run out
- Most hosts and Cloudflare renew certificates automatically. A late renewal usually means something failed
- On Cloudflare, look at SSL/TLS, Edge Certificates in the dashboard
- Otherwise ask your web host to renew or reinstall it
- Make sure the certificate covers every address you use, such as with and without www
Good to know
What happens when a certificate runs out?
Browsers show a full-page security warning instead of your website, and most visitors leave. Some apps refuse to connect at all.
Where does the expiry date come from?
From the public Certificate Transparency logs, where every trusted certificate is recorded. We also connect to the website to check browsers trust it today.
What does "renews itself" mean?
Short certificates, such as Let's Encrypt's, last about 90 days and renew automatically. If one is close to running out, the renewal has probably failed.
Can you remind me before it runs out?
Yes. Site Patrol checks every website's certificate daily and reminds you before it runs out. It's free for one website.
Stop checking by hand
Site Patrol checks for you every minute and tells you the moment something's wrong. Free for one website, no card needed.
